What was intended to be a presentation on copyright by a seasoned U.S. lawyer turned out to be a lively and very thought-provoking interaction on digital medium regulation, copyright issues, fascinating judgments and social media content ownership.

IMG_5774Hillel Parness addressed ITMI’s two-year Class of 2015-17 on “Copyright Enforcement in the Digital Environment” on Monday, 25 July 2016, and started with describing how laws evolved in the United States on ownership of content, especially since 1976 and the landmark legislation, Digital Millennium Copyright Act 1998. He described how music, videos, fiction and even apocryphal material is viewed by courts. Mr Parness answered questions on cases about who owns content on social media, whether we are moving towards re-regulation of content, and how the digital regulation scenario is a developing universe.
